Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was awarded the Champion<\/strong> title at the International Concrete Competition \u2013 CIVILWEEK 2021<\/strong>, in recognition of an innovative concrete material known as Glass\u2013Garnet Concrete<\/strong>, developed as a sustainable high early-strength concrete for rapid construction applications<\/strong>. The achievement included a USD 900 cash prize, certificate, and trophy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This award recognized the research and development of a novel concrete material incorporating waste glass and garnet<\/strong>, highlighting its potential to enhance early-age strength while promoting sustainable material utilization in construction<\/strong>. The UTM (FKA) team was awarded Most Flowable Concrete (USD 300)<\/strong> and Best Presentation Award (USD 200)<\/strong> in this international-level competition.<\/p>\n The achievement was attained under my academic advisory<\/strong>, where I guided the team in concrete mix design, optimization of self-consolidating properties, experimental methodology, performance evaluation, and technical presentation<\/strong>. The developed concrete mixes demonstrated excellent flowability and early-age strength performance<\/strong>, meeting the competition objective of achieving high early strength within 24 hours<\/strong> while maintaining cost efficiency.<\/p>\n The event aims to foster innovation, technical competency, hands-on experience, and leadership skills among students, researchers, and industry participants. South Korea<\/strong>, is one of the most prestigious international platforms for showcasing innovative technologies with strong commercialization potential. At SIIF 2025, the team led by Ir. Ts. Dr. Nor Hasanah Abdul Shukor Lim<\/strong> achieved significant recognition for the development of G-EASYMent: Geopolymer Easy Mix Cement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The innovation received a Special Award from the National Research Council of Thailand<\/strong>, a Special Award from the Taiwan Innovation Association<\/strong>, and a Bronze Medal<\/strong>, highlighting its technical merit and global relevance. G-EASYMent<\/strong> is an environmentally friendly alternative to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)<\/strong>, representing a major advancement in low-carbon construction materials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n By replacing OPC and valorising palm oil industry waste<\/strong>, G-EASYMent significantly reduces embodied carbon emissions<\/strong> while supporting circular economy practices<\/strong>. Its \u201cEasy Mix\u201d formulation<\/strong> enhances user-friendliness and safety, making geopolymer technology more practical and accessible for on-site construction applications, thereby accelerating industry adoption.<\/p>\n In addition, G-EASYMent utilizes geopolymer technology derived from industrial by-products such as fly ash<\/strong>, eliminating the need for limestone calcination and substantially lowering the carbon footprint. I was honored to receive the Outstanding Award and Gold Medal for GEOLITE, a one-part geopolymer concrete that can be mixed with water on-site, similar to ordinary Portland cement.<\/p>\n GEOLITE represents a significant advancement in geopolymer concrete technology, addressing one of the major barriers to its widespread adoption in the construction industry. By developing a one-part system that eliminates the need for handling caustic alkaline solutions on-site, GEOLITE makes geopolymer concrete more accessible and practical for everyday construction applications.<\/p>\n The innovation was recognized for its potential to revolutionize the construction industry by providing a sustainable alternative to traditional cement that is not only environmentally friendly but also user-friendly. The award has led to increased interest from industry partners and potential commercialization opportunities.<\/p>\n
