If people asked me, what is the impact of attending the BC4DCP workshop for 3 weeks? Then, I would say, A LOOOOOTTTTTTTT… (BC4DCP: a compulsory workshop for confirmation (one of the requirement))
This semester, I am quite ‘hardworking’ to implement an active learning approach to my classes. for this post, I would like to share a story of my Asas Rekacipta (Basic Invention) class.
At the end of this course, students need to invent a simple mock-up / 3D object/prototype as brainstormed/decided by the lecturer. Out of the blue, my friend keeps begging me to be part of her program, Pertandingan Diorama Pelabuhan Johor. To me, this is a very good opportunity for my Asas RC class to get life experience through their final project. Alhamdulillah, my students give positive feedback and willing to participate.
We only have more or less 4 weeks to brainstorm, understand, prepare and build the diorama mock-up. I am so blessed with their countless efforts and spirit althou we knew, we cannot win!!!
There were 6 groups of us. Alhamdulillah, we managed to get consolation prizes with RM200 cash for each group. I hope that this experience might influence the attitude and generic skills of my students as a foundation for them, to become a good teacher in the future. As to conclude, learning by doing is a very practical and lively approach for them to explore and experience real things, rather than just doing for nothing.
