Background

Dr Walid graduated from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and hold a PhD Degree in chemical engineering. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow staff at the UTM. During his years of education at the UTM, he has participated in few workshops and conferences and assisted his professors in several projects. In addition, he was an active member in the Institute of Future Energy (IFE), dealt with hydrogen production (as a clean fuel instead of petrol and diesel) from renewable sources such as bio-oil derivatives and participated in several events that were organized by the institute. Furthermore, he studied catalyst characterization, kinetic, catalyst deactivation for such reactions and published several papers too. Meanwhile Dr Walid carried out simulation study for bio-ethanol, sour gas and sour water treatment using aspen plus and aspen Hysys software. He studied the effect of synthesis and characterization of low cost materials for hydrogen production from plastic waste reforming and cracking such as Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) dissolved in phenol. In his postdoctoral program (April-2017 to April-2018) at RIPI he carried out a project entitled “synthesis a suitable zeolites for naphtha reforming process”. In the mentioned project Dr Walid developed zeoforming reaction which applied nano-sized ZSM-5 type zeolites with non-noble metal promoters in order to produce high octane gasoline instead of conventional and expensive catalyst such as Pt/Al2O3. In his UTM postdoc which started in 2019, he has has been working on synthesis a catalyst from waste material to produce biodiesel from waste resources.
