Headline: Bridging the Gap Between Nature and Nanomedicine
I’ve always believed that the answers to our most complex health challenges—like chronic diabetic wounds—are hidden in plain sight, tucked away in nature and even in what we consider “waste.”
Lately, my lab bench has been a crossroads of biotechnology and sustainability. Here’s a glimpse into the impact I’m working to create:
- Engineering the Future of Diabetic Care: I’m currently developing advanced nanofibrous dressings specifically designed for diabetic foot ulcers. By isolating and fabricating high-purity cellulose fibers from plant waste, I’m proving that “waste-to-wealth” isn’t just a slogan—it’s a clinical solution.
- Decoding Botanical Intelligence: It’s one thing to say herbs heal; it’s another to prove how. I’m deep-diving into the cellular mechanisms of phytotherapeutic agents to see exactly how they trigger rapid tissue regeneration in chronic wound cultures.
- The Roselle Revolution: I’m pushing the boundaries of Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle), formulating high-performance nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals that prove natural bioactives can compete with—and beat—synthetic alternatives in the biomedical space.
The Goal? To ensure that the next generation of wound care isn’t just effective and affordable, but also environmentally conscious.
It’s a long road from the petri dish to the patient, but seeing these plant-based nanofibers take shape makes every late night in the lab worth it. 10.03.2026

Innovating with Nature: Bridging Science, Sustainability, and Community Impact
Ts. Dr. Siti Pauliena Mohd Bohari is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, and an associate research fellow at the Nutraceutical and Food Unit at the Institute of Bioproduct Development, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). With a passion for natural product innovation, she explores the potential of local plants—especially Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle)—to create sustainable and functional products for health and well-being. Her research spans nutraceuticals, wound care, and eco-friendly formulations that combine scientific rigor with community impact.
Beyond the lab, Dr. Siti Pauliena enjoys transforming her research into real-world applications, from developing roselle-based food and skincare innovations to mentoring students in creative, hands-on science. She is deeply committed to promoting sustainability, local resources, and knowledge sharing that benefits both academia and society.
