{"id":2868,"date":"2021-08-16T10:06:01","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T02:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/radzuans\/?page_id=2868"},"modified":"2021-09-01T13:25:01","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T05:25:01","slug":"integrated-design-project-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/radzuans\/integrated-design-project-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Integrated Design Project (Site Planning &amp; Earthwork)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Site Planning<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students working in groups are given a proposed development site plan<\/li>\n<li>The site plan indicates &#8211; location of the proposed site, development components, existing contours\/spot heights, existing road network, \u00a0drain network and drainage reserves, stream, \u00a0rivers\/waterway location etc.<\/li>\n<li>Site planning module consists of: 1.Site Inventory Process; and 2.Site Analysis Process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Site Inventory<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Site Inventory Process &#8211; study and observe development site plan to produce an \u2018inventory\u2019 \u00a0list of important existing features (in and \u00a0around) site that would have an impact to the \u00a0infrastructure components to be designed later \u00a0in the IDP series.<\/li>\n<li>This list shall include (but not limited to):<\/li>\n<li>1.general existing site profile, undulation, location of \u00a0highest peak levels and lowest levels, etc;<\/li>\n<li>2.adjacent land use (virgin \/developed);<\/li>\n<li>3.locations and invert levels of existing drainage \u00a0reserves or major waterways;<\/li>\n<li>4.layout and levels of existing road and drainage \u00a0network around the site;<\/li>\n<li>5.existence of natural ponds and streams or wetlands \u00a0in and around the vicinity of the proposed site, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Site Analysis<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Site Analysis Process &#8211; information gathered from Site Inventory digested and basic grading (levels) plan conceptionalized, e.g.:<\/li>\n<li>1.knowing the location of existing lowest level of \u00a0the site then the location of the sewerage \u00a0treatment plant can be logically sighted.<\/li>\n<li>2.the best location for the elevated water reservoir \u00a0to be within the vicinity of the highest peak.<\/li>\n<li>3.location of the nearest existing waterway or the \u00a0location of existing drainage reserves, the final \u00a0discharge point can easily be established4.Information gathered from studying the existing \u00a0road network around the proposed site helps \u00a0identifying the best possible location of the major \u00a0entrance to the proposed development plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Conceptual Grading<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All these decisions will lead the you to gradually form a <b>conceptual<\/b> <b>grading<\/b> <b>(levels)<\/b> plan that would establish the logic and feasibility to \u00a0support all major utilities such as:<\/li>\n<li>DRAINAGE, SEWERAGE, domesticated WATER \u00a0SUPPLY and ROAD NETWORKS for the proposed \u00a0development plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Earthwork Design<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actual Earthwork Design performed based on conceptual grading\/levels developed earlier<\/li>\n<li>Proposed levels should be practical and workable to support\/match major infrastructures:<\/li>\n<li>1.\u00a0 Proposed main entrance road level with existing road \u00a0levels,<\/li>\n<li>2. Facilitate site drainage discharge to existing drainage \u00a0network or existing storm water drainage reserves,<\/li>\n<li>3.Facilitate sewerage flow from the far reaches of the \u00a0development to the sewerage treatment plant at the \u00a0lowest possible proposed level in the site etc.<\/li>\n<li>With these \u2018trial\u2019 proposed levels, calculate the \u2018cut and fill\u2019 volume of earth for the entire site<\/li>\n<li>1. Process of selecting suitable \u2018trial\u2019 proposed levels \u00a0and\u00a0 volume calculation repeated over and over \u00a0again such that a \u2018balanced cut and fill volume\u2019 of \u00a0earthwork design is obtained, or<\/li>\n<li>2. A more economical earthwork design such as the \u00a0\u2018minimum cut and fill\u2019 process are opted.<\/li>\n<li>Slope stability &#8211; to establish safe slope gradients for critical cut and fill slopes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the end of this module you are required to PRESENT and ORALLY justify your respective site planning for infrastructure components in a \u00a0\u2018Poster Session\u2019 where each group shall table \u00a0their \u2018Site Inventory \u2019 and \u2018Site Analysis\u2019 process \u00a0together with their respective \u2018Conceptual \u00a0Grading or Levels Plan\u2019 in graphical A1 color \u00a0poster format.<\/li>\n<li>Scope of work (written report) that has to be \u00a0completed shall include:-<\/li>\n<li>1.Earthwork plan (A1) indicating proposed levels for \u00a0buildings, roads, cut &amp;
