We are all familiar with Boston Dynamics and its numerous robots, but it appears that there is a new player in town. Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has introduced its first robot dog, which is every bit as impressive as Boston Dynamics’ Spot, albeit at a much lower price. The robot is powered by a version of NVIDIA’s Jetson Xavier NX, the world’s smallest artificial intelligence supercomputer, according to the company. It’s open-source which means developers will be able to build upon it in order to create their own applications for the robo-canine. The company announced it will start by delivering 1,000 of the robots to “Xiaomi fans, engineers and robotics enthusiasts to jointly explore the immense possibility of CyberDog.” With its 11 sensors, including touch and ultrasonic sensors, CyberDog can interact with its environment and learn about it. The robot’s cameras also enable it to follow a person and navigate obstacles in its immediate environment. The CyberDog looks similar to Boston Dynamics’ Spot, except that it costs only 9,999 Yuan (approximately $1,540). Spot, on the other hand, costs an astonishing $74,500. What is the degree of similarity between the two robots? What can each of them accomplish, and how can they be managed? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each robot, and how do they compare? In our video, we answer all of these questions and more, and we even show you live footage of each robot dog in action to demonstrate our point. This is an important video that should not be missed.
