  • International grant is more toward policy improvement. Malaysia more toward human capital and publications.

  • Find mentor

  • When identify research topic, determine the trend.
  • Investigate when proposed topic.
  • Still need to apply external grant for promotion dan KPI.
  • Read the guideline carefully.
  • Have proposal bank. Update according to trending.
  • Explanation not too technical. Don’t use too much new term
  • Achievable withing period of time.
  • Put role for each member.
  • Clear key element. Need to good executive summary.
  • Use plain language -> simple short sentences.

 

Transdisiplinary Research Project

  • Don’t forget stakeholder.  International grant usually require stakeholder letter of interest.
  • Pattern: Take years to complete.  Take 4 years. cannot publish paper, because paper in public domain.
  • Copyright: a lot of thing, even teaching module. lower than pattern. Just cop. If people use and take money, you can fight.
  • When begin work, take small admin work first.
  • Leadership track inside by dean. Usually teaching or research only. Professional track usually have technical expertise, has network.

    • Hard science
    • collaborative
    • ???
  • External people not understand academic people. Be patient.
  • The stakeholder need to be in the team.
  • TRGS Grant – improve policy, methodology, solution. Surpass knowledge. RM1.5M. Contribute country’s strategic agenda. Leader need to be associate professor.
  • Input e-LPPT: Quality and quantity. quantity does not care. But quality Q1 and Q2.

 

UKRI – UK Research and Innovation

  • Newton Fund & GCRF.
  • Cannot be individual. Need to be collaborator from original country.
  • Newton Ungku Omar Fund (NUOF) – Malaysia + UK grant
  • Newton Fund fokus on hiring people. Hard to buy big equipment.
