Module 2C – Assessment

Terminology – testing, measurement, evaluation, assessment.

  • Testing: not only rubric, Q&A also testing.
  • Measurement: Need to be quantitative. Ability>instrument>score.
  • Evaluation: Judge measurement. A, B, C, D.

Assessment: Monitor and reflect. Help improve the students. Not too much improve weakness, but improve the strength.

Student cannot do same assessment because students are different.

Type of assessment: Formative(continuous, like assignment) Summative (at the end, exam). Can be traditional (write, online, no need to perform anything) or alternative. Offline or online. Synchronous (only traditional can be used) and Asynchronous (can be both traditional and alternative).

Function: Assessment ___ Learning: for, of, as. For  formative, Of summative, As student monitor their own (like PhD).

Type (more detail): Placement (pretest)>Formative>Diagnostic (tutorial)> Summative.

Interpretation: Norm reference test (use normal distribution, mean) or Criterion Reference Test (compare to standard).

Assessment in OBE: identify outcomes (PLO CLO ULO)>determine assessment>learning activities>curriculum.

Assessment method (assignment, test) and assessment tools (rubric).

Subject without/with practical components.

Process oriented = check frequently. Flexible = assessment can change.

Formative assessment needs to help student answer summative assessment.

Student should receive feedback on timely manner.

Assessment not use to threaten and intimidate students.

Attendance and active in class cannot be marked since it is not in CLO. Communication maybe.

Character of Good Test: Validity (measure what want to measure)

How to make JSI (Jadual Spesifikasi Item)

Formula A:

TLO = topic learning outcome (weekly). More TLO, more the question in exam.

Formula B:

Formula C:

Reliability – make sure all cohort has the same result when answer the questions. No need to do.

Validity and Reliability. Usually valid but not reliable.

Test Duration.

CTT – analysis difficulty of each question. Correct answer/number of students. Useful for bank item (like bank questions).

Discrimination Index – able to differentiate good and bad student. Positive discrimination high achiever?low achiever. Negative ___, equal.

Cannot use for assignment. Assignment only rubric. Analyse individual test or exam.

if individual have same mark, delete the student from list?
