Dr. Salmiati obtained her B.Sc. in Biological Science from Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia in 1995. In 2002, she completed her Master of Environmental Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor, and obtained her PhD in 2008 from same University. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer in Department of Water and Environmental Engineering and Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
Dr Salmiati has worked with IPASA, UTM for a period of ten years as a research fellow and has shown outstanding contribution in the field of environmental monitoring and has proficiency in laboratory skills of chemistry and microbiology. As researchers, she has been involved in water and wastewater issue, such as, treatment of palm oil mill effluents (POME), photosynthetic granules for wastewater treatments and micro-pollutants removal using advanced treatment. Her research is not only confined to water and wastewater treatment studies but she have also expanded her research into water environment especially dealing with the fate, transport behavior mechanisms, synthesize and removal of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the water environment. Her research has gained various recognition and awards at the university level. Currently, she is involved with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs sponsored by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to monitor water quality in Cambodia. CSR in Cambodia involves development of household filter for arsenic in drinking water and sanitation. As a consultant, she has provided advice on solutions for water and wastewater treatments in industry and government.
At present, she has more than 50 scientific publications including International journals and other publication. She is a member of International Water Association (IWA) and Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology (MySET).
