eBraille Al-Quran

Website: eBraille

This project aims to aid visually impaired and blind Muslims in their journey of understanding and appreciating the Al-Quran ina more effective, efficient, and convenient way. The eBraille (electronic Braille) Panel functions just as a computer monitor would for sighted people. Braille codes are displayed through raised dots on the panel, which visually impaired and blind people can read from. The refreshable Braille display is what allows users to read and recite line after line of the Al-Quran without fail. Users can even go back and forth between the lines using the buttons on the panel, easing their task in navigating through the Al-Quran. Visually impaired and blind users no longer need to memorize the index, as they can simply return to the main menu and make their selection there. Additionally, users can easily bookmark any parts which they would like to return to without the impediment of memorizing where they last left off. Users also have access to the audio of Quranic recitation which they can play and pause according to their own pace and comfort. The eBraille Panel is far lighter and smaller than the existing volumes of the Braille Al-Quran, hence making it convenient for users of all ages to carry around and use.

What makes the eBraille Panel an even more valuable innovation for visually impaired and blind Muslims, is that it can also be used as a teaching aid for the teaching and learning of the Al-Quran. The eBraille Panel comes with a Teaching Module, where the Teaching Module can be used by teachers to lead a classroom in the recitation of the Al-Quran. Students’ panels can be connected to the teacher’s panel wirelessly, and hence the teacher can select a particular part for the class, and all students’ panels will simultaneously display the same selected line of the Al-Quran. This allows for teachers to teach larger classrooms more effectively, and this enables uniformity.

Teachers can ensure that all students are on the same page without having to check with the students one by one. Lessons are not only easier to be conducted, it also saves a lot of time for the teaching and learning process. Teachers can also key in specific Braille codes for the purpose of teaching students using the Perkins keys on the panel. Additionally, teachers can connect their panel to a computer and use the eBraille software which allows teachers access to more functions for the teaching and learning of Al-Quran.
