Sarawak polls: Adenan pledges to safeguard rights, expand development

KUCHING: Tan Sri Adenan Satem has launched Sarawak Barisan Nasional’s manifesto which pledges to continue the policies he has put in place, and to expand development in the state further.

The manifesto, which carries the theme “Give team Adenan a chance,” outlines all the achievements of the state government and summarises its plans to bring Sarawak to greater heights over the next five years.

“Give us a chance to serve you longer. We will continue to uphold the rigths of Sarawak and its people and we will safeguard the peace and harmony of the state and preserve the cultural heritage and beliefs of the people,” said Adenan, who is state Barisan chairman, at PBB headquarters here on Tuesday. DAP’s Gobind barred from Sarawak

PETALING JAYA: Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo of DAP joins the list of politicians to be denied entry into Sarawak.

Gobind told The Star Online that he had arrived at Kuching International Airport on Tuesday and was told he could not enter the state.”Flight was at 9.40am and arrived at 11.30am,” he said adding that he was on his way back to Kuala Lumpur and due to arrive at 2.45pm. Asked if the Immigration department cited any reason for barring him, Gobind said they “relied on Section 65(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1959/63”. Others who were denied entry included DAP’s Anthony Loke, Teresa Kok, Tony Pua, Teo Nie Ching, PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tian Chua, Shamsul Iskandar, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Sim Sze Tsin and Amanah’s Mohamad Sabu. read more

PETALING JAYA: In a dramatic message to the employees of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS), the first non-Malaysian handpicked to head the national carrier, Christoph Mueller, who will be exiting the national airline in September, told them that “the show must go on!” in an internal memo seen by StarBiz.

Mueller, who took over from Ahmad Jauhari Yahya last May as chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director and undertook the restructuring of Malaysia Airlines System Bhd that later morphed into Malaysia Airlines Bhd, would have served just 15 months. Socso spent RM164mil on members’ dialysis

PETALING JAYA: The Social Secu­rity Organisation (Socso) has spent RM164mil on dialysis assistance for its members.

Socso CEO Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said it had provided the support to 12,068 members with end-stage renal failure last year.

“Chronic kidney disease is a serious and costly affair but it is preventable with a heightened awareness of one’s own health,” he said. Read more

Australia confirms Mozambique debris ‘almost certainly’ from MH370

CANBERRA: The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has released a Technical Examination Report Wednesday, which says two pieces of debris found in Mozambique “almost certainly” originated from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Australia’s transport minister Darren Chester said the stencils of key words and numbers fully matched the font used by Malaysia Airlines, which differed from the font used by the Boeing factory when delivering aircraft. Read more

MIRI: Thirty four-year-old hospital personnel Maskabi Kabar was named Mr. Miri 2016 Champion of Champions beating 73 others at Boulevard Shopping Complex here yesterday.

Maskabi will be representing Miri in the upcoming Mr. Sarawak championships.

Sunday’s event was organised by Miri Bodybuilding Association (PBBBM).

Participants contested in eight other categories: Mr. Novice, Masters (45 and older), Junior (21 and below), Fly Weight (60kg and below), Bantam Weight (60-65kg), Light Weight (65-70kg), Middle Weight (70–75kg) and Light Middle Weight (75–80kg).
