Dr. Shek Poi-Ngian joins Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as senior lecturer at Department of Structures and Materials, Faculty of Civil Engineering since March 2010. He is currently a faculty Associate Professor as well as the research fellow in UTM Construction Research Centre (UTM-CRC), and the program coordinator for Engineering Doctorate Program.
Dr. Shek received his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) in year 2005 and Doctor of Philosophy (Structure) in year 2009 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia respectively. He now is a member in The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) with membership No. 27125, Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) (P121402), Malaysian Society for Engineering & Technology (mSet), Malaysian Structural Steel Association (MSSA) and Society of Engineering Education Malaysia (SEEM) as well.
As a senior lecturer in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the job scope can be divided into teaching and learning, supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students, research and publication, planning and management, social engagement, human capital development, professional service and consultation. Shek’s primary research interests are in the field of steel connection, multi-storey steel frame, light steel framing system, steel and composite structure and load bearing interlocking block system. To date, Dr. Shek has supervised or co-supervised 24 Ph.D. and Master students, and actively involved in research and development activities. Other than leading eight research projects, he also holds the position as co-researcher for 32 other projects that awarded by the government and university. He has published over 82 journal papers and proceedings at both national and international levels. Those research output have been mostly presented and he has received several awards from Industrial Art and Technology Exhibition (INATEX), Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE), International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX), International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN), and Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF).
