Soul of Academia

Teaching is the foundational profession that shapes all other careers. I firmly believe that the capacity to learn is a precious gift, the ability to learn is a honed skill, and the willingness to learn is a powerful choice. For me, becoming a lecturer is not just a career path, but a transformative journey. My unwavering faith in the power of education drives me to inspire and empower young minds, helping them unleash their full potential and become positive contributors to society. Over the course of more than five years, my industrial experience in human resources and research has profoundly enriched my career and stands as my most valuable asset as a new lecturer. These experiences have significantly influenced my teaching styles and approach to sharing knowledge with my students. By blending real-world industrial applications with fundamental concepts, I bridge the gap between theory and practice, facilitating optimal student’s learning outcomes. The primary goal of my teaching is to foster student-centered learning through active engagement. I firmly believe that students should construct knowledge by actively interacting with the material through discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities. Empowering students in their learning journey instills in them a strong sense of ownership over their education, leading to increased motivation and engagement. As a result, this approach ensures long-term retention of the acquired knowledge, making their learning experiences more meaningful and enduring.

I believe that the ‘soul of academia’ can be thought of as the heart and spirit of the academic align with the philosophy of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Philosophy it’s all about the main ideas, beliefs, and rules that form the foundation of things like schools, research, learning, and gaining knowledge. This idea also includes the strong interest, hard work, and curiosity that push people in academia to learn new things, find new facts, and add to different areas of knowledge. Here, I have the privilege of contributing to the realization of this mission by delivering world-class education and fostering an environment where students can cultivate their skills, critical thinking, and creativity. It is our collective goal to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders and thinkers, equipping them with the tools they need to make meaningful contributions to society and advance our commitment to excellence in education and pioneering research. As an educator, I am dedicated to nurturing the holistic development of my students, preparing them to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future and ensuring they become catalysts for positive change in the world.

As a lecturer, I emphasize the core values of Integrity, Synergy, Excellence, and Sustainability in my teaching and interactions with students. These values align seamlessly with the broader objectives outlined in enVision UTM 2025 Action Plan 2023, which seeks to propel UTM forward on its moonshot transformative journey, accelerating progress toward our five-year strategic plan and the vision of becoming a premier university offering world-class education and research in our region. This journey involves the cultivation of future-oriented, high-quality graduates, pioneering solutions to complex challenges through cutting-edge research, leveraging advanced technology and the quadruple helix nexus, and ultimately, establishing ourselves as the undisputed global leader in technology-based research among the nation’s universities.
