The radiosonde balloons were launched at Dept. of Fisheries, Tanjung Sedili, Johor from 26th-30th March 2017 for 4 times a day (8am, 2pm, 8pm and 2am).
Result of the radiosonde is being used to validate the the amount of total Integrated Water Vapour (IWV) as derived from GPS signal propagation in the atmosphere. The process to estimate the IWV from GPS is also known as GPS Meteorology.
This is part of research project on the Development of Prototype Near Real-Time GPS Meteorology System. The project is collaboration between UTM and National Space Agency (ANGKASA), Malaysian Meteorological Dept. (MetMalaysia), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Dept. of Fisheries (DoF). UTM was awarded with a contract research to complete this project which was fully funded by ANGKASA, Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI).
