Biography

 

Sr. Dr. TAJUL ARIFFIN MUSA is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Geoinformation & Real Estate, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor’s honour degree (Land Surveying) and Master of Science (Land Surveying) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and is awarded with PhD (Satellite Navigation & Positioning) from University of New South Wales, Australia.  He specialises in surveying and mapping, satellite geodesy, atmospheric and space weather study. His research activities are focused on developing Global Positioning System (GPS) real-time surveying system and applications, GPS for meteorology, ionospheric measurements and its modelling for space weather monitoring. He is responsible for the development of a network-based real-time kinematic (RTK) system (ISKANDARnet) for teaching and research, National R&D GPS continuously operating reference station network (NRC-net), real-time ionospheric and space weather monitoring system in Malaysia (MyIono), real-time Equatorial Ionopsheric Index (EIX), and is currently developing a first prototype of near-real time GPS for Meteorology in Malaysia.

Sr. Dr. Tajul has been appointed as a Scientific & Technical member on the Common International Border Datum Reference Frame between Malaysia & Indonesia by Dept of Survey & Mapping Malaysia (DSMM), Expert Committee on sustainable policy for State of Johor by Dept of Economy Planning Johor (UPEN), Expert Reviewer for earthquake effect on geodetic datum of Malaysia by DSMM, team member for comprehensive and extreme weather & flood forecast in Malaysia by Malaysian Meteorological Dept (MetMalaysia) and Technofund panel evaluator of Sea, Space & Atmosphere Cluster, Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI). He is also a Fellow at Centre of Tropical Geoengineering, UTM, Associate Researcher at Fraser Hill Research Centre, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Head of Geomatic Innovation Research Group in UTM.

Sr. Dr. Tajul is a member of Royal Institute of Surveyor Malaysia (RISM), member of International Global Navigation Satellite System (IGNSS) Society, Australia and a member of International Association of Geodesy (IAG), Germany. His involvement in teaching, research and consultancy activities have been recognised with several awards such as Service Excellence Awards by UTM, Teaching & Learning awards by the faculty and UTMSPACE, 5-Star Rated Resources Person by Centre for Modern Management Sarawak and Professional Working Paper Award in Space Applications by National Space Agency (ANGKASA). He is also has been granted with contract research grants worth more than RM1.5million since 2015 from several government agencies and invited as guest speaker in international and local conferences.
