JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar officially launched the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, here tonight. Also present was the Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, who is the foundation’s chairman. In her speech, Raja Zarith said her son, Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim, who passed away of liver cancer on Dec 5 last year, remained an inspiration to cancer patients and survivors, and she promised to fight for the cause and help patients to ease their burden.

“Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil often visited cancer patients. My children and I will continue the work he started. “We want to make sure that his legacy will live on,” said Raja Zarith. Also gracing the event were Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail, Che’ Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris, Tunku Tun Aminah, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar and the rest of the royal family. Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and state assembly speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Aziz, among others.

 

A total of RM550,000 was contributed to the foundation at the event. From that amount, RM250,000 was presented by Khaled on behalf of the state government, RM200,000 was given by Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd (KPRJ) chief executive officer Abd Razak Mohd Yusoff on behalf of the government-linked company, and RM100,000 from Yayasan Pelajaran Johor Holdings Sdn Bhd (YPJ) chief executive officer Elias Hasran also on behalf of the GLC.
