Dr Umar Haiyat has successfully completed a doctoral thesis entitled ‘The Factors that Influence the Sustainability of Malaysian Bumiputera (Indigenous) New Technology-Based Small Firms’ from RMIT University, Australia. He has published 13 journal articles / conference proceedings based on his research and presented the research findings in Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia. Recently, he is leading a research project under the Ministry of Youth and Sports that aims to examine the innovative business models of Malaysian youth social entrepreneurs. Besides, he is also actively involved in research consultancy activities with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Human Resources (MoHR) in the area of SMEs innovation and informal sector in Malaysia.
