In most professions, people don’t get to “create” their own environment. They go to work in the environment that has been created for them and that they contribute to. However, the beauty of being an academician of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), we get to create our own environment (with the adaptive newly academia learning innovation scheme). Students is always put their hope that their lecturer able to create a positive environment that will enrich the learning that goes on in the lecture room. UTM’s lecturers have the freedom to make the best out of it!
As a young lecture, I always admire the method of teaching and learning as performed by my mentors and other superior lecturers. Whether they did it intentionally or not, they did inspire others just for being like them. They inspired young generation to do their best to work hard. They also encouraged and inspired everybody around them to be happy, positive, creative, and energetic when they are.
Since becoming a senior lecturer, I have learned so much about several methods of learning and teaching. Now, it comes very naturally for me to set up my lecture, create bulletin displays, create engaging lessons and appealing resources, etc. During my previous courses on teaching and learning, I have learnt from Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda to unleash self confident and build soul of academia through teaching and being passionate about my area of field. I have also started my research grant as well in order to sustain my knowledge and skills. I have been encouraged to use soul of teaching blended with experiences to spark inner self creativity.
As a young academia, it is so rewarding to go to work and be surrounded by love all around me. Sometimes, during a busy time or stressful day, a simple greeting “Assalamualaikum Dr, or “Good Day Dr” or a doodle from a student on their free time, can instantly put a smile on my face. It is such an honor to be able to teach students and love them while they are in my care for them to learn and become a successful person in future.
