2-DAY WORKSHOP ON INTRODUCTION TO SWARM INTELLIGENCE AND ITS APPLICATION TO OPTIMISATION BY PROFESSOR ANDRIES ENGELBRECHT

Please do not miss the abovementioned workshop.  We still have a few more places. The class size is kept small to facilitate practical sessions. This workshop is a rare training opportunity for you and your fellow researchers to acquire the practical knowledge on  Swarm Intelligence and its Application to Optimisation.  Besides optimization, the applications of swarm intelligence are wide ranging, from solving difficult computational problems to data mining and robotics.

This workshop is to be conducted by Professor Andries Engelbrecht, Professor in Computer Science, Pretoria University, South Africa, an expert in this field for more than 10 years.

Workshop Dates              : 3 & 4 Apr 2017 (9.00 am to 5.00 pm)

Venue                                  : Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Fee                                        : RM1,990.00 pp (RM1,890 pp for group of 3 or more)

(We accept Local Order)

Why attend this workshop:

  • fundamentals of swarm intelligence
  • particle swarm optimization, ant algorithms, artificial bee colony optimization, bacterial foraging optimization, firefly optimization, fish school optimization, and others
  • optimization theory, specifically different classes of optimization problems including constrained optimization, optimization in dynamic environments, multi-objective optimization, and multimodal optimization
  • how to apply the computational swarm intelligence algorithms to solve optimization problems of the different optimization problem classes
  • how to apply the computational swarm intelligence algorithms to train neural networks, to cluster data, to perform DNA sequence alignment, and to train neural networks, amongst other problems.

The workshop participants need no knowledge of any programming language or knowledge of artificial intelligence or computational intelligence.

The workshop will provide participants with practical exercises on applying particle swarm optimization algorithms to solve optimization problems. Participants are expected to bring their laptops to the workshop.

Workshop Leader:

Andries Engelbrecht is Professor in Computer Science at the University of Pretoria, and serves as Head of the department. He holds the position of South African Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence, and leads the Computational Intelligence Research Group. Prof Engelbrecht is very active in the international community, annually serving as reviewer for over 20 journals and 10 conferences. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and the Swarm Intelligence Journal.

The workshop is developed from his vast experience in swarm intelligence, and is mostly based on his book entitled Fundamentals of Computational Swarm Intelligence, 1st Ed, Wiley, 2005.
