A special textbook on geodesy was published by Springer in 2009 entitled “Global Geodetic Observing System”. The book consists of many contribution chapters by re-known geodesists and was edited by Plag. Chapter 2 is a good read on “the goals, achievements, and tools of modern geodesy” with seventy-five pages content.
