Cassinis in Geodesy

Cassini family has contributed a lot in geodesy. There were four family members of Cassini involved in the advancement of geodesy from 17th to 18th Century. The four members were;

Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712) – Cassini I. He discovered four satellites of planet Saturn and noted the division of the rings of Saturn. In 1669 he moved to Paris Observatory.

Jacques Cassini (1677-1756) – Cassini II

Cesar-Francois Cassini de Thurry (1714-1784) – Cassini III

Jean-Dominique Cassini (1748-1845) – Cassini IV.
