The Iskandar Puteri Penyayang program, dedicated to the development and support of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) community, was successfully held at Mydin Mall Mutiara Rini on August 17, 2024. The event, which attracted significant community participation, was officiated by Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and the need for ongoing support for individuals with ASD.
The program was organized as part of a larger effort to raise awareness about ASD and to foster a supportive environment for those affected by the disorder. It featured a range of activities, including informative workshops, exhibitions, and interactive sessions designed to educate the public, offer resources to families, and promote community integration for individuals with ASD.
In his opening address, Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan emphasized the collective responsibility of the community in supporting individuals with ASD. “This program is a reflection of our shared commitment to inclusivity and compassion. By coming together, we can ensure that individuals with ASD are given the opportunities and support they need to flourish in our society,” he stated.
The event was also graced by the presence of several distinguished guests from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), including Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dr. Rosli bin Mohd Illias, Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan dan Inovasi), Prof. Dr. Arief Salleh Rosman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) and Director of the Centre for Community and Industry Network (CCIN), and Prof. Dr. Johari Surif. Their attendance underscored UTM’s commitment to community engagement and the development of initiatives that benefit the ASD community.
Prof. Dr. Rosli bin Mohd Illias highlighted the importance of research and innovation in addressing the challenges faced by the ASD community. “At UTM, we are dedicated to driving research that not only advances knowledge but also has a direct and positive impact on society. Our collaboration in this program is a step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with ASD,” he said.
The program provided an invaluable platform for families, educators, and healthcare professionals to exchange ideas and resources. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts, explore the latest advancements in ASD therapies and educational tools, and participate in discussions on how to better support the ASD community.
