My first teaching experience dates back to April 2001, when, I worked as a tutor. Then, in August 2001, the same year, I was appointed as a lecturer. In my first years, I taught 2-3 courses a week. I taught undergraduate students from 1st year to final year. The experience and the feedback were so positive. I received good student evaluations.
Then, in September 2009, I started my PhD journey 3 years 9 months. Time is of course the big issue for PhDs. So, I did not involve directly in teaching during PhD studies. I enjoy sharing knowledge and assisting students and colleagues in an informal setting with many one-on-one conversations in my research lab.
After finishing my postgraduate study, I’m back to UTM and I have worked as a senior lecturer at Faculty of Geoinformation and Real Estate. Since then, I have been responsible for courses at the bachelor level and the master’s level for Master of Science (Land Administration and Development) students. In 2018, I went for industrial training. At the same time, UTM has embarked on a unique history when undertaking the restructuring of its academic entity known as UTM Synergy 4.0.
The UTM Synergy 4.0 has merged Faculty of Built Environment (FAB) merged Faculty of Geoinformation and Real Estate (FGHT) to form the newly established Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying. A year after, I’m back to UTM with major transformation. This is meant to open up more opportunities for synergy and collaborations between academicians from different academic disciplines and new innovation in offering academic programs that are able to fulfill the new needs of the society in the future.
So, here I’m. I come back with new motivation. I ready to share fruitful experience with my students. Here again, with excellent evaluations from student make me happier.
This teaching history shows that I have developed and taught various courses within my 20 years of teaching experience (for more details, see my detailed teaching CV). I engage my students with different teaching methods, depending on the course and the level of study. I don’t use the same activities to engage under graduate and postgraduate students.
My teaching experience across many groups of students and the excellent evaluations attest to my teaching versatility and adaptability.
Since developing my knowledge and skills is of utmost importance to me, I regularly participate in pedagogical courses and seminars. Instead of repeating the same mindless teaching year after year, I have actively focused on improving performance through continuous reflection and peer feedback.
After the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, all teaching has been moved online. To best adapt to the new platform, I have read extensively and participated in seminars. I have also had a continuous dialogue with and feedback from students.
I am currently supervising MPhil and PhD student and have mentored a few lecturer at FABU. I was also acting as postgraduate research coordinator at FABU.
