My Insights as an Engineering Surveying Lecturer into Academic Leadership in Higher Education at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
In my capacity as a lecturer in Engineering Surveying at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), my unique perspective provides me with valuable insights into the intricate dynamics of academic leadership within this specific academic environment. I am here to share my reflections and observations on academic leadership at UTM, particularly from the standpoint of a faculty member in the engineering department. It is important to note that my insights are grounded in my experiences and knowledge up to September 2021, and they might not fully encompass recent developments at the institution.
Academic leadership at UTM encompasses a diverse range of roles, including department heads, deans, and the vice-chancellor, all of whom play pivotal roles in driving the university’s success. These leaders are entrusted with the responsibility of steering the academic course, shaping the curricula, and cultivating an environment that fosters learning and innovation.From my perspective as an Engineering Surveying lecturer, I have had the opportunity to witness that academic leaders at UTM are required to possess a distinct blend of attributes. In my capacity as a lecturer, I have been appreciative of the university’s strong emphasis on providing students with well-equipped laboratories, classrooms, and other essential educational resources.
