Synopsis

This course is designed to introduce students to the concepts and methods of engineering design process in solving engineering design problems, creatively and effectively. The process briefly includes problem understanding, concept generation, concept selection, and development and testing of the ‘proof of concept’.

Course Learning Outcome (CLO)
  1. Develop product design specification (PDS) using complete background study.
  2. Propose multiple solutions using functional based approach.
  3. Evaluate possible solutions using evaluation matrix.
  4. Analyse the final design using the engineering judgement.
  5. Construct physical model based on the embodiment of the final design.
  6. Conduct oral and written presentation on final design.
Teaching and Learning Activities
  1. Active learning
    – Conducted through in-class activities
  2. Project-based learning
    – Conducted through design assignments. Students in a group of three or four are given one project that requires students to organize an industrial visit to selected industries.
