Plastic bottles can be found almost anywhere on Earth. Every year nearly 2.4 million tons of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic being discarded. This attests to the fact of their usefulness and to the ease and low cost in making these items. Indeed, plastic bottles are so useful that almost any liquid beverage or food product can be found being sold in plastic bottles. How can we (those who involved in the architecture industry) prevent this from littering the Earth? Maybe more of us should started building plastic bottle houses, which are cheap to construct and surprisingly durable.

EcoARK Exhibition Hall, Taiwan
Proving that there are all kinds of uses for recycled PET plastic, Taiwan based engineer Arthur Huang turned plastic bottles into an exhibition hall. His team processed nearly 1.8 million used plastic bottles into honeycomb-shaped ‘brick’ for a boat-shaped building called the EcoARK, to raised the awareness about the importance of recycling. Built for Taipei’s flower show, EcoARK was constructed for jus one-third the cost of a conventional structure made of galss, metal panels and concrete, within 4 1/2 months. Once locked together, the bricks are extremely strong. Huang also plans to use this concept for a warehouse and a military barracks.
