Social Entrepreneurship : Pn Anja Juliah Abu Bakar

Who is Puan Anja?

As founder and CEO of Bluebear Holdings Sdn Bhd, Anja Juliah Abu Bakar sells Athena, reusable sanitary and maternity pads that help reduce garbage in landfills. Her Girl Empowerment Project aims to educate girls on hygiene and address the issue of girls missing school due to menstruation. Some cannot afford pads and they stay home or resort to unhygienic alternatives like old clothes.

Made from eco-certified fabric which is absorbent, non-irritant and easy to wash, the pads are sewn by housewives, refugees and disabled people in the Klang Valley. Aside from trying to sponsor a girl’s education for each sanitary pad sold, Anja’s achievements include being the only Asian woman selected to attend the Social Enterprise Forum in Stockholm last year.

https://www.metropolia.fi/en/about-us/

November last year i have applied for Erasmus+ training program to Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

Pre-arrangement has been been well between both institution and coordinators from UTM International Office have been a great help.

i will be going with another officer, Ms Rohaizan from UTM CCIN. Never met her before so i am looking forward for this trip together so i can know her better.

Me and Ms Elina from Metropolia had a brief meeting when  she was in the country to attend APAIE 2019 recently. The date has has been confirmed — 10-14 June 2019. Flight ticket was purchased by Ms Tiina, from Metropolia International Office who is coordinating our visit, as well as our accommodation.

I have yet to prepare any presentation slides, and the thought that i will be leaving during the fanfare of Raya celebrations may sadden me a bit but my spirit is high in anticipating the Finland adventures nevertheless!
