Greetings. My name is Mohd Hafiz Habibuddin. I am an Associate Professor of Power System with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). I have been with UTM for over 20 years and currently attached to the Centre of Electrical Energy Systems. I teach various courses in the area of power system. My research area focuses on the planning, operation and protection of a power system with the presence of renewable sources. I am also engaged in various consultancy, professional and community works. I am a Professional Engineer certified by the Board of Engineers Malaysia and also a Certified Energy Manager by ASEAN Center for Energy.

SEEE4423 Power System Engineering

This course is designed to introduce the necessary concept and application of power system protection; and stability analysis of power system. Topics include, transducer, protection schemes, power system stability and circuit breaker. At the end of the course, the students are expected to complete a project on the design of a protection system based on an actual power system.

SEEE4443 Power System Analysis

This course is designed to introduce the per-unit representation of power system and the applications of power system analysis in a practical power system. Topics include: per unit, load flow analysis, symmetrical three-phase faults, symmetrical components and unsymmetrical faults. At the end of the course students are expected to apply the analysis concept in solving the real power system problems.

SEEE4453 Power System Control

The course introduces students to the control and operation of a power system and high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. It will discuss the basic principle of SCADA system and its application in power industry, the economic operation of power system under regulated/deregulated environment. The discussion focuses on the control strategies that can be used to generate and deliver power economically and reliably to the power system customers. The course will further discuss on the load frequency control and voltage reactive power control. The course will also introduce the basic operation of converters in HVDC system. At the end of the course, the students are expected to apply the analysis concepts in the operation of power system and HVDC system.

MKEP1673 Power System Protection

This course introduces students to some major views, theories and applications in power system protection. It will examine some key issues in overcurrent protection with special focus in IDMT relay application in power system network. The course will also discuss on distance protection, differential protection and load shedding. The students will also be taught with the topic related to power system fault diagnostic. The students are expected able to evaluate the performance of power system protection

METE1133 Electrical Energy Management and Audit

This course introduces students to electrical energy management and audit for buildings and industries. Students will be exposed to the basic concepts of energy management and energy audit. The implementation of efficient management of electrical energy regulation and the role of the energy manager under this regulation will be discussed. The students will also be exposed to the fundamentals of the electrical system. The structure related to energy pricing and the cost saving measures of electricity bill will also be discussed. Energy saving potential in electrical equipment such as lighting systems, electric motors and transformers will be highlighted. Electrical energy audit with practical case study will also be covered in this course. At the end of the course, students would be able to apply energy management concepts and conduct electrical energy audits.
