My philosophy as a lecturer
MODUL 3: TUGASAN INDIVIDU
I’m Dr. Sukri, a senior lecturer, researcher, and engineer passionate about blending science and innovation to solve real-world challenges. My journey began at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, where I delved deep into the world of renewable energy and water/wastewater treatment during my master’s and PhD. These experiences laid the foundation for my lifelong dedication to making a tangible impact through engineering.
In my career, I’ve learned that innovation is not just about the technology itself; it’s about the people who drive it forward. It’s about creating an environment where ideas can flourish, where students can challenge themselves and each other, and where every project is seen as a stepping stone to something greater.
MY 4 PILLARS OF SELF LEADERSHIP
KNOWING WHO I AM
Before stepping into the classroom, I made it a priority to understand myself, believing that self-awareness is essential for effective teaching. By knowing my strengths, weaknesses, and values, I’ve been able to connect more authentically with my students and approach challenges with resilience. I also remind myself not to be too hard if things don’t go as planned, viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth. This mindset not only enhances my teaching but also sets a positive example for my students, emphasizing that learning is a continuous journey for all of us.
KNOWING WHAT YOU DO
Understanding what I do goes beyond just knowing my job title or responsibilities; it’s about recognizing the behaviors and motivations that drive my work. My actions in the classroom and the lab are guided by a deep commitment to innovation, continuous learning, and making a meaningful impact. Whether it’s mentoring students or advancing research, my motivation stems from a desire to push boundaries and inspire others to do the same. By aligning my actions with my core values, I ensure that everything I do is purposeful and contributes to my larger goals of fostering growth and excellence in my field.
KNOWING WHAT YOU NEED TO LEARN (MY WEAKNESS)
Knowing what I need to learn is crucial to my growth, yet identifying those learning points isn’t always easy. The challenges lie in recognizing the gaps in my knowledge and understanding what’s truly necessary to improve. Despite these difficulties, I’ve developed a strength in setting up effective learning plans. By breaking down complex goals into manageable steps, I ensure that my learning process is structured and purposeful, allowing me to continuously evolve and stay ahead in my field.
USING WHAT I KNOW(MY SECOND WEAKNESS)
Using what I know as a foundation, I’ve focused on building successful learning habits that support my ongoing growth. While I’m committed to continuous learning, I recognize that maintaining this momentum requires structure and discipline. I’ve developed habits that reinforce my learning, but I also understand the value of having a mentor. A mentor’s guidance and feedback are essential in refining my approach, offering new perspectives, and ensuring that my learning journey is both effective and aligned with my long-term goals.
MODUL 4: TUGASAN INDIVIDU (Part A)
MODUL 4: TUGASAN INDIVIDU (Part B)
