Mona was born in Kota Tinggi, Johor. Received her early education at Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang before pursuing her first degree and Master in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai in Electrical – Telecommunication Engineering. Joined UTM as a tutor in 2003 and becoming a lecturer in 2005. Received an offer to continue her PhD in Lightning Physics at Uppsala Universitet, Sweden, Mona did not hesitate to fly 15 hours flight and lived in a temperate region for 5 years and came back to Malaysia at the end of 2014. Her thesis entitled “Temporal and Wavelet Characteristics of Initial Breakdown and Narrow Bipolar Pulses of Lightning Flashes” was all about her work done at Uppsala Universitet under the supervision of Professor Vernon Cooray and Dr Mahbubur Rahman.
