18 September 2019 – A New Academic Learning Innovation (NALI2019) exhibition was held at the Convention Hall, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru. Around 80 participants took part in this exhibition where the objectives of this competition are:

    • To recognize NALI research and innovation products in teaching and learning through exhibition and competition
    • To be the platform for sharing of research and innovation products in teaching and learning
    • To improve educators competency in practicing teaching and learning in the 21st Century through NALI talk series and workshops,
    • To improve STEM awareness among educators in practicing NALI

All participants have to prepare a poster of size A1, showcasing their new ideas, creativity, innovativeness, and applicability of their learning innovation, as well as impact to students, in terms of engagement and empowering.

This year, I participated in this competition, together with PM Dr Pei Ling, Dr Rashidah and Dr Nurzal Effiyana, and we submitted an entry entitled ‘Harnessing Cooperative Learning Environment in Digital Electronics Course’. The paper that I submitted is more to a documentation of the cooperative learning that I conducted in my class, with the help of Dr Rashidah and Dr Pei Ling.

Since I had class during the judging time, PM Dr Pei Ling was kind enough to present the poster on behalf of me. I am sure that her presentation skill is one of the winning factors that led us to win Silver medal in the competition. Not to forget, Dr Rashidah helped me a lot to complete the poster and also she helped me to print the poster. My student also supported me by being there in the exhibition hall to update me with the latest news from the hall since I couldn’t be there in the morning session.

Overall, this is an exciting experience for me and I couldn’t believe my luck that I actually won something in Engineering Education exhibition. At first, I joined this just to honour a promise I made to someone, but of course I gave all my efforts to write the extended abstract that I submitted for this competition, as well as did my best to finish the poster.

Will I join this again? InshaAllah, there will always be that opportunities in the future, if I have enough support, complete materials, why not?
