Antarctica Adventure

The journey to Antarctica started from 25 February 2015 to 19 March 2015. The intention is to seek scientific evidents on the impact of Antarctica and Southern Ocean towards biological and environmental sustainability in Tropics especially in Malaysia water and land.

6 UTM Scientists were selected to perform research in remote sensing, microbiology, sport science and mechanical engineering. The data sampling was conducted through cruising along the Peninsular Antarctica.

Route to Antarctica

Our journey started from UTM Johor Bahru to Dubai (UAE), Buenas Aires (Argentina) and Ushuaia (Argentina) by flight. The trip continued to reach the Peninsular Antarctica using yacht (sailing boat) for the rest of the days.

AUSTRALIS – The research vessel

The research activities and sampling have successfully performed thanks to the capability of our research vessel called Australis. The Australis was led by the Captain Ben Wallis with his crews Anna and Magnus O’Grady.

Preparing for Sailing

We had been briefed by the Captain about the preparation before sailing and during the expedition. We took nice lunch and chat before we off to Antarctica!

Drake Passage : The real experience

One of the greatest experience to Antarctica is to pass through the Drake Passage. Alhamdulillah, we safely went through the challenge!

Welcome to Antarctica

We arrived at Peninsular Antarctica after 4 days of sailing. Best part is having a good time with Penguins.
