SKA FREE Research in Education Series: Getting to Know Your Data

This morning, together with Dr. Hadijah, I had the opportunity to deliver an online talk on qualitative data for education research to my colleagues at the School of Civil Engineering (SKA). Group discussions were also held during the workshop, which allowed us to identify the types of data gathered by our friends at SKA during their courses. I wish to thank the organising committee for having us in the first series.

SKA FREE group discussion

Today we had our first online meeting to discuss the running of the group’s activities for 2021. The session was led by Dr. Muzaffar and joined by Prof. Khalida, Dr. Zuhaili and Dr. Hadijah.

How not to have that reflection on my glasses? Happened every time…..

To start the ball rolling, we planned to have a series of online discussion on “Knowing Our Data”. The schedules will be confirmed by Dr. Zuhaili soon.

PhD Proposal Defense Session 2020/2021-2 (Examiner)

Session in progress

We had a proposal defense session for Dr. Zakiah’s PhD student this morning. The session was chaired by AP Dr. Aqeel with Dr. Rustam as his assistance. While Prof. Yeo and myself as the examiners.

Among the main points I learned today is that contextualising special education in a PhD research project requires a candidate to:

(1) accurately conceptualise the research focus (i.e. in this project the focus is children with autism);

(2) differentiate the terms employed (for example what is the differences between “special education” and “inclusive education”);

(3) highlight the issue within the Malaysian context (e.g. the issue of diagnosis of autism in Malaysia).

Thank you Prof. Yeo for the detail explanations related to the three points mentioned above. And congratulations to Natasha Amira (PPPE) for successfully negotiated her proposal defence. All best wishes.

The Reflective Brain group presented two papers during the 8th IEEE Symposium on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (SASSP 2020)

It was virtually organised IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter in collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).

Shanthini presented her paper entitled “Functional Connectivity Pattern of Dyslexic Brain during Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) Tasks Using Electroencephalogram (EEG) Signals”.
