Unboxing this copy of “Philosophy of Education” by Nel Noddings, which safely arrived this week. Online purchase via Book Depository UK, delivered by PosMalaysia. Now at least I have the recent reference for SHPP1002 Philosophy of Education.
This copy arrived in mid-November. I purchased it online on Kinokuniya’s website, but due to its unavailability, they had to obtain a copy from Sage Publishing, UK.
Last week I asked my SHPS students to reflect on the topic ” “Philosophy & the contemporary educational issues: Share your thoughts…” via Padlet. Going through their responses gave the sense that the students have the ability to make sense of the topics that had been discussed during OL and related them with the challenges posed by the pandemic. I do feel that reflective practice is one of the mechanism in my attempt to humanising OL by encouraging students to make “relatable” of things that they are experiencing during their learning process.

Self: I can better understand about myself. We always talk to the inner self “Why am I being emotional after receiving the news of my friend’s wedding? Why am I no longer loving ice cream? Why am I being irritated when people asking for my help that I usually love to deal with?” In my perspective, people change from time to time and we have to better understand ourselves in every stage of our life so that we can easily accept everything that happens to our life rather than being negative and suffering in despair for a long time. With the knowledge of cognitive psychology, you will not be surprising when you give yourself a try on a new challenge or thing that you would not try previously because you know that it is just a transformation of our mind.
Last week, I conducted an activity on Padlet as to encourage student’s reflective practice by asking them to respond to the topic of discussion: “Philosophy & the contemporary educational issues: Share your thoughts…”
It was nice to know that students were able to summarise their views on the topic, as well as to position their views within the contemporary issue related to COVID-19 pandemic. It was interesting to read entries that included the importance of educational technology during the pandemic, given the fact that students of this section are all specialising in Islamic studies (SHPI).

The first week of semester 1, session 2020/2021 officially began on 18 October 2020. For this semester, I’m scheduled to conduct one UG course i.e. SHPP1002 Philosophy of Education with two sections on my timetable.
