Online Presentation at QRAM IQRC 2021
I had the opportunity to present my SoTL mini research at the 10th International Qualitative Research Conference 2021 or IQRC 2021 (21-23 October 2021) organised by the Qualitative Research Association of Malaysia (QRAM). This year’s theme was “Humanness & Technology for Qualitative Research: New Approaches”.
My presentation entitled ““It is Not Easy to be a Housewife, Student and Teacher at the Same Time”: Stories of Struggles Among Malaysian Female Teachers as Postgraduate Students During the Covid-19 Pandemic” was basically a collection of narratives of female teachers who struggled to achieve balance while juggling their multiple roles as teachers, students, mothers and wives, among others, during the pandemic. The narratives were derived from my qualitative data that was based on reflection practice assignment from my MPPE 1113 Cognitive Psychology course.

Attending Virtual Workshop: “Introductory Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis” by Prof. Jonathan Smith
Yesterday I attended an online workshop delivered by the expert himself, Prof. Smith, organised by The Qualitative Report (TQR), Nova Southeastern University. It was 11:00AM-6:00PM US Eastern Time, so practically I had to stay up the whole evening until the wee hours of the next morning (started at 11:00PM locally and ended 6:00AM).
In a nutshell, it was a comprehensive workshop during which Prof. Smith covered the fundamentals of phenomenology and the essentials of IPA. Good news for us the qualitative researchers is that Prof. Smith’s second edition of IPA book will be published soon. Something that I really look forward to.
Conducting “Workshop on Planning and Conducting SoTL Activity”
Together with Prof. Khariyah and Prof. Fatin, I had the opportunity to conduct an online workshop on how to plan and conduct SoTL activity. During the workshop, I shared my experience of conducting SoTL research at the doctoral level through my session entitled “Fundamentals of SoTL”. While Prof. Khariyah shared her experience conducting SoTL within the context of engineering education. Prof. Fatin on the other hand talked about planning and conducting SoTL activity, with the emphasis on learning theories. We also had break-up sessions through which we interacted with the participants. They were also given the chance to present their proposed SoTL activity meant for the coming semester.
Reading “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Over the weekend I finished reading “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. The four intertwined stories represents the idea of those who were brave enough to take the chance to visit their past (and future) in order to find closure in their lives.
I don’t think I have the heart to meet my beloved, even if I were given the chance to return to the past to meet them. The pain of losing them are unbearable until now.
