Dr. Nasrul is a dedicated academic, researcher, and professional in the field of electrical and computer engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electric, Electronics, and Systems from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1999, followed by a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2002. His pursuit of knowledge led him to obtain a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, in 2009. Since joining the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1999, he has played a crucial role in both research and education.
He has held key leadership roles, including serving as the Head of Department for the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (FKBSK) and the Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering (FBME), where he was instrumental in shaping academic programs and research directions. Additionally, he served as the Director for Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) until 2019, driving advancements in research and technological innovation. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), specializing in biomedical image processing, medical electronics, artificial intelligence, and rehabilitation engineering. His research focuses on developing cutting-edge technologies to improve medical diagnostics, patient rehabilitation, and intelligent computing systems.
As a recognized expert in his field, Dr. Nasrul has been a Professional Engineer (Ir.) and Professional Technologist (Ts.) since 2020, underscoring his technical expertise and commitment to engineering excellence. Beyond academia, he has made a significant impact in the chess community, serving as a national chess coach for the ASEAN/ASIA Para Games from 2017 to 2023, where he has mentored and trained para-athletes in strategic thinking and competitive gameplay. His dedication to para chess in Malaysia has been nationally recognized, earning him the Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (Excellent Service Medal) from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) for his outstanding contributions. His unwavering commitment to education, research, professional excellence, and sports reflects his passion for fostering intellectual growth, technological innovation, and national development.
