Dr. Mohd Nazri bin Kama is a Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, specializing in Data Management, Computer System Development, and Data Analytics. He boasts an impressive academic background, including a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Software Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2011, a Master’s degree in Real-Time Software Engineering in 2003, and a Bachelor’s degree in Database Management in 2001, both from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

His expertise has garnered recognition from various organizations. In January 2023, he was appointed as a Special Advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Communications and Digital Malaysia in Putrajaya, focusing on personal data management. Subsequently, in March 2023, he assumed the role of Commission Member at the Companies Commission of Malaysia, responsible for overseeing registrations and compliance of legitimate companies in Malaysia. In this capacity, he leads the development and maintenance of computer-related systems to enhance the Commission’s operations with cutting-edge digital technology.

On May 8, 2023, the Malaysian government entrusted him with the position of Director-General of the Department of Personal Data Protection under the Ministry of Communications and Digital. In this role, he oversees the administrative affairs of the Commissioner’s Office for Personal Data Protection. Later, starting on June 16, 2023, he assumed the crucial role of Commissioner of Personal Data Protection Malaysia, ensuring that the principles of personal data protection are upheld and the rights of data subjects are well protected while ensuring compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act by all registered Data Controllers in Malaysia.
