Marine Technology Centre (formerly known as Marine Technology Laboratory) was established in 1996 and officially opened by our 4th Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad in 1999. It was upgraded by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in 2003, It is the only hydrodynamic centre in the country and fulfill the following functions:

  • Provides teaching facilities for Marine Technology undergraduate students.
  • Facilitate R&D work for academic staff and post-graduate students.
  • Serves the Marine Technology needs of the marine industry by providing ship and floating structure model testing and associated services.

The Centre is a member of the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) since 1998 and thus being one of the recognised hydrodynamic testing facilities in this region. The Centre’s capability is tailored to become the premier teaching, research and consultancy institution in the field of Marine Technology in the region. Being as one of the Centre of Excellence to the University, Marine Technology Centre has significant contribution to the growth of the maritime industry in Malaysia.
