ii. Highlighting the R & D and new inventions in the field of Science, ICT, Social Sciences, Business and Management.

iii. Generate designs and inventions that can be commercialized at national and international levels.

The exhibition is divided into three categories which are Professional, Tertiary and school level.

We entered the Science and Technology category under Professional level with me as the team leader.

We use the same product as in INATEX before but with some improvements on the presentation.

Since this was my second experience entering an Innovation competition, I am quite relax and a little be more preparedĀ on the questions that might be asked by the panels šŸ™‚

And Alhamdulillah for IIID Johor 2017, our project managed to get a GOLD MEDAL award.

I am beyond happy with these achievement considering that just recently I have the guts and courage to join such competition :)..

Macam dah lama tinggal competitiveness spirit tu time zaman sekolah2 dulu jer šŸ™‚

But again thanks Allah SWT for the blessing :)..

I am happy with our achievement :)..its something to be proud of šŸ™‚

Adsorption of cadmium (II) ions by polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon nanofibers/magnesium oxide as its adsorbents

Another journals published in MalaysiaN Journal of Analytical Science (MJAS) entitledĀ  Adsorption of cadmium (II) ions by polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon nanofibers/magnesium oxide as its adsorbents. You can download here paper-mjas.

Abstract

In this work, activated carbon nanofibers (ACNFs) from precursor polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and magnesium oxide (MgO) were prepared via electrospinning process. The morphological properties of the PAN/MgO-based ACNFs were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and the specific surface area (SSA) were investigated using nitrogen adsorption, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) methods. Moreover, the functional groups were analyzed by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). Besides that, the sorption study has been conducted in order to determine the adsorption capacity between electrospun ACNFs/MgO, pristine ACNFs and granular activated carbon (GAC) towards cadmium (II) ions. The results showed that the SSA of modified ACNFs (198.80 m2/g) is significantly higher compared to the precursor ACNFs (15.43 m2/g), however the SSA obtained is quite lower compared to the average theoretical value. SEM micrograph of pristine ACNFs depicted more compact nanofibers compared to aligned nanofibers with average diameter of 200-700 nm. Under batch adsorption study, it was found out that Cd(II) removal of both ACNFs and ACNFs/MgO is higher compared to the commercial GAC. It has been demonstrated that the adsorption capacity of both electrospun ACNFs (ACNFs/MgO and pristine ACNFs) is higher when compared to the adsorption capacity of commercial GAC towards Cd (II) ions.

In this work, activated carbon nanofibers (ACNFs) from precursor polyacrylnitrile (PAN) and manganese oxide (MnO2) were prepared via electrospinning process. The electrospun PAN/MnO2-based ACNFs were characterised in term of its morphological structure and specific surface area using SEM and BET analysis respectively. The comparative adsorption study of cadmium (II) ions from aqueous solution between the neat ACNFs, composite ACNFs and commercial granular activated carbon was also conducted. SEM analysis illustrated that composite ACNFs have more compact fibers with presence of MnO2 beads with smaller fiber diameter of 437.2 nm as compared to the neat ACNFs which is 575.5 nm. BET analysis elucidated specific surface area of ACNFs/MnO2 to be 67 m2/g. Under adsorption study, it was found out that Cd (II) removal by ACNFs/MnO2 was the highest (97%) followed by neat ACNFs (96%) and GAC (74%).

1. What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is the global leader in evaluating and improving student writing. The companyā€™s cloud-based service for originality checking, online grading and peer review saves instructors time and provides rich feedback to students. One of the most widely distributed educational applications in the world, Turnitin is used by more than 10,000 institutions in 126 countries to manage the submission, tracking and evaluation of student papers online.

2. How does Turnitin work?

Institutions license Turnitin on an annual basis. The institutions are encouraged to communicate with students about their use of Turnitin and how their academic integrity policies work. An instructor sets up a class and an assignment in the Turnitin service. Students or instructors then submit papers to Turnitin via file upload or cut-and-paste. Turnitin consists of three core tools: OriginalityCheckĀ®, GradeMarkĀ® and PeerMarkĀ®. OriginalityCheck compares the paperā€™s text to a vast database of 24+ billion pages of digital content (including archived Internet content that is no longer available), over 250 million papers in the student archive, and 120,000+ professional, academic and commercial journals and publications. The software is regularly updated with new content acquired through new partnerships. For example, Turnitin partner CrossRef boasts 500ā€plus members that include publishers such as Elsevier and the IEEE, and has already added hundreds of millions of pages of new content to our database. Turnitin offers institutions a wide variety of flexible options for handling studentsā€™ submissions including options that let students choose to keep their papers in an institution-only private zone. Once assured of the paperā€™s originality, instructors use GradeMark to provide rich feedback using drag-and-drop marks, voice comments, and rubrics. ETSĀ® e-raterĀ® technology is integrated with GradeMark to identify spelling, grammar, mechanics, usage and style errors so instructors can focus on providing more substantive feedback. Instructors can track student views of the graded paper, customize and share comments and rubrics, track grades using a grade book, and assess students over time.
