Projek Manhattan: Di sebalik Penciptaan Bom Nuklear Ketika Perang Dunia ke-II-artikel dari Majalah Sains

I found interesting write up from Majalah Sains. It is originally written by Zamir Mohyedin, seorang Mahasiswa Fizik dari UiTM. It is on the invention of nuclear bomb during World War 11.

IIID JOHOR 2017- Preparation

Early this year, I registered myself as participant for IIID Johor 2017. This event is organized by UiTM Segamat and will be held in Amansari Residence Resort, Bandar Seri Alam Johor. The organizing of the Invention, Innovation and Design (IID) competition was first mooted by the UiTM main campus in Shah Alam in an effort to promote innovations in all faculties and campuses as feeders for participation at the university level IIDEX (Invention, Innovation and Design Exposition). IID Johor was first organised in compliance with this requirement from the Research Innovation Business Unit (RIBU).

iiid johor

The first IID Johor was held in Dewan Sri Temenggong, UiTM Johor in the year 2009 at the UiTM Johor level. In the following 2 years, it was opened to the public at the Southern Zone level. In 2012 and 2013, it gained momentum and was opened at the national level. IID Johor became a brand name linked to UiTM Johor known to many local and international institutions of learning. Beginning 2014, the Innovation Unit, UiTM Johor with great confidence and anticipation, organized IID Johor for the first time at the international level. Again in 2015 the competition was organized at the international level and has been held outside UiTM Johor’s campus in Johor Bahru. The strive for excellence has led to IID Johor this year to also be open at the International level.

Since it will be an international innovation competition, I do think that my student and I have to start preparing for our booth materials. I will share the same product that I presented in Inatex last year with some improvement :)….Pray for our success yah 🙂

Majlis Citra Karisma 2016

Each year, majlis CITRA KARISMA will be organized to acknowledge UTM staffs who have shown excellence performance throughout the year and for 2016, it has been a lucky year for me as I am one of the recipient for excellence service award.   CITRA KARISMA 2016 has been organized on 31st May 2016 and I know it has been almost 8 moths passed by but this kind of event deserved to be posted in blog and here I would like to share some of the pics during the event. Thanks Allah S.W.T for the rezki and hopefully I can always  deliver the best service to UTM, insyaAllah.

Adsorption of cadmium (II) ions by polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon nanofibers/magnesium oxide as its adsorbents

Another journals published in MalaysiaN Journal of Analytical Science (MJAS) entitled  Adsorption of cadmium (II) ions by polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon nanofibers/magnesium oxide as its adsorbents. You can download here paper-mjas.

Abstract

In this work, activated carbon nanofibers (ACNFs) from precursor polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and magnesium oxide (MgO) were prepared via electrospinning process. The morphological properties of the PAN/MgO-based ACNFs were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and the specific surface area (SSA) were investigated using nitrogen adsorption, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) methods. Moreover, the functional groups were analyzed by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). Besides that, the sorption study has been conducted in order to determine the adsorption capacity between electrospun ACNFs/MgO, pristine ACNFs and granular activated carbon (GAC) towards cadmium (II) ions. The results showed that the SSA of modified ACNFs (198.80 m2/g) is significantly higher compared to the precursor ACNFs (15.43 m2/g), however the SSA obtained is quite lower compared to the average theoretical value. SEM micrograph of pristine ACNFs depicted more compact nanofibers compared to aligned nanofibers with average diameter of 200-700 nm. Under batch adsorption study, it was found out that Cd(II) removal of both ACNFs and ACNFs/MgO is higher compared to the commercial GAC. It has been demonstrated that the adsorption capacity of both electrospun ACNFs (ACNFs/MgO and pristine ACNFs) is higher when compared to the adsorption capacity of commercial GAC towards Cd (II) ions.

Buku Gentian Karbon Teraktif untuk Penstoran Gas Asli tercalon dalam Anugerah Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia 2016

Remember my previous post on my book being published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

Last Thursday, I received an email from DBP notifying that my book is listed for ‘Anugerah Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia 2016’.

It is indeed a good news to start new year 2017. Lets pray that buku “Gentian Karbon Teraktif untuk Penstoran Gas Asli” akan memengangi anugerah dalam Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia 2016 nanti :)…

And to anyone who are interested to purchase my book, you can purchase via online on Kedai Buku DBP.

Good luck to my research methodology student 2016

Tomorrow my master taught course student will have their oral presentation for MKPM 1414 (Graduate Project 1 ) subject.

I wish them the very best of luck in their presentation tomorrow.

I salute them for their effort to pursue Master despite they are already a successful engineer in their field…gud luck guys..

Thanks for being very good student of mine 🙂

Car Free Day in UTM 20 Dec 2016

UTM akan mengadakan program Car Free Day Peringkat UTM pada 20 Disember 2016.
Program ini menggalakkan warga kampus mengamalkan aktiviti yang dapat mengurangkan pelepasan karbon seperti Car Pool”, “Park and Ride”, dan “Cycle and Walk”.

Access to Elearning through ‘One Stop Services Centre’ myUTM at http://my.utm.my.

ACCESS TO E-LEARNING SYSTEM

Last Thursday and Friday, I am having problems to access elearning.. I thought there are viruses attacking the elearning system because all access are being blocked :P…then only I know that the access to E-learning are now through through the ‘One Stop Services Centre’ myUTM at http://my.utm.my.

In the my utm portal https://my.utm.my/iportal.php#, one can now access to elearning, e-portfolio and many other important utm weblink such as UTM Blossom, UTMotion and etc…

All of you can refer to the manual How to login at https://my.utm.my/howtologin.pdf. to explore the portal …

Tips for VIVA presentation

General advice

  • Choose a number of message to excite people.
  • Start with catchy phrase/picture/story to engage with audience.
  • Know your audience (expert/non-expert)
  • Plan/write what you want to say on a paper not on slides.
  • Practice a lots

Tips for Good Presentation Slides

  • Be neat, as 1st appearances is very important, boost up your confidence level too
  • Avoid trying to cram too much into one slide
  • Be brief
  • Use a large font
  • Use color to emphasize
  • Use illustrations to get across key concepts (may use limited animation)
