This is a short story about my frenetic experience as professional collector of Limited edition of DVD set. I have been collecting Limited edition of DVD set from all around the world since 2003 and Blu-Ray set recently. Mathematically, 11-years of collecting limited edition set has turned me from amateur to a bit-off centre (in some way) professional collector. To date, I have around 600++ special edition and limited edition of DVD set and a few Blu-Ray sets from 20 countries, safely stored in closed cabinets at home and in my office, all securely wrapped to prolong its lifetime from physical deterioration since humidity in my country is rather high. Of all my collections, most of it came from South Korea since I really love KPOP movies and the packaging of Korean set is always tremendously outstanding. The Korean set always looks stand out in the cabinet, overshadow the rest of my collections. I can say that I specialise in collecting Limited edition of DVD set issued for Korean local market. The Korean set always drives me crazy and never fail to impress my wife!
It all began in Edinburgh when I was there torturing my medula oblonggata for the sake of PhD at Heriot-Watt University. I stumbled upon this on-line forum known as DVDimportforum. The members (I called them the first generation of professional collector) were passionately discussing about their collection of limited edition set from all around the world. They shared international websites that provide delivery service of limited edition DVD world-widely. That was how I plunged myself into this fascinating hobby. In the early year of my craziness, I bought the DVD set from the local stores at Princess Street, Edinburgh (HMV, Virgin) and through on-line shopping for DVD set from abroad. As time drifted away, the size of my collection has grown exponentially without mercy. These days, I’m no longer importing the set from overseas in order to expand my entire collections. Instead, I choose to hunt the set while I’m away for overseas travel. It doubles the fun and very challenging.
