Biography

Nor Muhainiah Mohd Ali (born November 17, 1981) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) where she has been a faculty member since 2005. Nor had perfect scores in all her subjects throughout her years in school, then enrolled at UTM for UTM–MARA Express Program. In 2002, Nor graduated with first honor degree from UTM with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mathematics. She continued her studies for her master’s degree at UTM. Nor majored in Pure Mathematics for her Ph.D degree at UTM and graduated from the university in 2008.

Her research interests lie in the area of Group Theory; capability and homological functors of groups; probability group theory with their graph; and formal language theory and DNA. Nor has written more than 170 Group Theory research papers in national and international proceedings and journal. She has also supervised 15 undergraduate students for their final year project, and 20 students at the postgraduate level.

Nor is an Exco Member of Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Society (PERSAMA) and has been the Coordinator of National Mathematical Olympiad (OMK) from 2011 until 2016. Nor also a life-time member of Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Society (PERSAMA), American Mathematical Society (AMS) and she is a Vice President PIBG, Sekolah Kebangsaaan Taman Sri Pulai, Skudai.
