About Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid

Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid embarked on her educational journey by pursuing a degree in civil engineering from 2002 to 2008. She then proceeded directly to pursue a master’s degree for 2 years and a PhD for 3 years, successfully completing her studies in 2015. During this period, she achieved notable milestones, including being recognized as a young woman scientist and receiving awards from MAPWIST and YWS in Korea. She also served as an Inviting Researcher at Hanyang University, Korea in 2014. During her time at Hanyang University, she gained exposure to microstructure analysis of materials using sophisticated equipment. At this stage, she has been awarded as the Best Postgraduate Student 2016 and awarded with Chancellor’s Award 2016 in UTM 56th Convocation.
In 2016 till recent, she get appointed as senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). A research member of Construction Material Research Group (CMRG) and Waste Technology and Carbonation Research (WTCR). Following her job confirmation, she spent approximately 1 year at Hunan University as a Young Scientist under the Chinese Government’s Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP) from 2019 to 2020. During her tenure at Hunan University, she learned deep knowledge in foam material development and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies, collaborating closely with Professor Tung Chai Ling.
In 2020, Dr. Nur Hafizah received the prestigious Next Innovator 2020 award from the Korean Government, specifically from the Republic of Korea (ROK)-ASEAN partnership, earning her a prize of USD 12,000. Subsequently, in 2021, she earned approximately USD 8,000 through the University’s UTMShine award and being recognized as Young Scientist under Young Scientist Network Malaysia- Academy of Scientist Malaysia (YSN-ASM). Utilizing the funds earned, she developed her CCUS equipment setup; pelletization machine and small CO₂ chamber as her new platform of CCUS research.
In 2023, she was honoured with the prestigious MINDS Young Woman Scientist 2023 award by the Malaysian Innovation and Design Society. At the same year, she secured an industry grant worth nearly USD 250,000 and recently she established a new CCUS Laboratory-a pioneering facility equipped with a state-of-the-art CO₂ chamber and specialized equipment. This laboratory is the first in Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM and Malaysia serving as a dedicated hub for advancing CCUS research. This remarkable journey has been instrumental in shaping her career trajectory and expertise, particularly in the fields of CCUS technology, with a special focus on construction materials with foster high-impact national-international collaborations, and drive CCUS technology on a global scale.
Other than being active in research, she is also passionate about enhancing academic writing skills among students and young researchers. As a certified Mendeley Advisor, she actively conducts workshops for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, focusing on effective citation and reference management using Mendeley software. In addition, she offers hands-on training on Auto-Generated Writing techniques through the use of advanced Microsoft Word template development. Her efforts aim to empower students with practical skills that streamline their academic writing process and improve the quality of their scholarly work.
