A New CCUS Laboratory
A new Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) laboratory focused on construction materials has been established at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The laboratory is fully funded by local private industry. This pioneering laboratory, led by Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid, is the first of its kind at Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM and in Malaysia, marking the beginning of a new niche in civil engineering research. Equipped with the latest research tools, the laboratory will serve as a hub for students, researchers, and industry collaborators from both Malaysia and abroad. It will offer a platform for joint research projects, focusing on the integration of CCUS technology in the development of sustainable construction materials. Additional equipment will be added over time, enhancing the lab’s capabilities and expanding its scope of research. Moreover, the lab explores the potential of utilizing by-product materials, which possess unique characteristics that can be harnessed for sustainable construction.
