RESEARCH INTEREST

Dr. Liew Peng Yen focuses on sustainable engineering with an emphasis on energy-centred industrial symbiosis for reducing overall energy consumption and carbon emissions, through process integration, optimisation, and life cycle assessment techniques. He investigates how interconnected industries can share and recover energy through the strategic integration of utilities and processes to improve overall energy efficiency. His work applies process simulation tools to model and evaluate complex energy systems, enabling data-driven optimisation and decision-making. By incorporating life cycle assessment, he ensures that environmental impacts are considered across the whole process chain. Dr. Liew also explores hydrogen as a clean energy solution, particularly in its application for decarbonising industrial clusters. His research contributes to the advancement of low-emission technologies and energy-efficient systems for a more sustainable future.
Dr Liew is also actively conducting research in Engineering Education, focusing on pedagogical approaches (cooperative and project-based learning), motivation, psychological capital, emotional intelligence, teamworking skills and sustainability awareness.
