Dr. Pinnaduwa H.S.W. Kulatilake paid a visit to ISRM Malaysia NG on 23rd August 2023 and gave a Half-Day Seminar on Rock Engineering at UNITEN. Dr Pinnaduwa is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona, USA, and the President of the Sri Lankan Rock Mechanics and Engineering Society. Recently he served as a Distinguished Professor of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering for three years at a University in China under the Distinguished Foreign Expert 1000 Talent Program funding from both the Chinese Government and a Province in China.
He gave a talk on two interesting topics entitled Representative Elementary Volume (REV) properties of a rock mass in China, and equivalent continuum/discontinued and fully discontinuum 3-D stability analyses of a tunnel in the same rock mass and the second talk was on A Case Study on Stability and Rock Support Assessment for a Complex Underground Mine in the USA.
