ACTIVITIES:

GREMIS’14 was set up under the Global Outreach Programme (GOP) which is initially formed to globalize the educational experience by adding an international dimension to the student.

During the programme, 20 civil engineering students were exposed to the academicand non-academic activities that took place at Bandung, Indonesia. The visit was started with the academic tour to the Mining Department at Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Other than presentation by both university representatives, few rock testing have been demonstrated to the students. Here,they could establish professional and career opportunities by networking with students and academics at ITB.

The second day was the marble quarry visit at Pumarin. This was the highlight of the visit, where the students were exposed to the marble quarry operation. Starting with the rock extraction to the final product of the marble. They have learnt the theoretical part during the class lecture, and the application should be at the quarry itself.

During the stay,they never missed the trip to the Kawah Putih. The geological heritage of Kawah Putih, which was as formerly a sulfur mine and an active volcano that makes the place was very interesting,especially with the smell of sulphur of course!

The last day of the visit, they were given free time to explore the Bandung, as the Paris van Java, it is a shopping spree, and Bandung also is very famous with the music instrument calledanglung.

As the conclusion of the visit, the students had fulfilled the objective of GOP, where they should stablish professional and career opportunities by networking with other students, academics and professional organizations; they also should now have improved language skills, cross-cultural understanding, and cross-cultural and interpersonal communication and most importantly the experience personal growth by developing self-confidence, independence, and social skills.
