BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Samira Albati Kamaruddin is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), formerly known as the Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics. She has expertise in hydrology, hydrogeology, water resources, soil and slope engineering, and environmental sustainability. Her expertise includes advanced soil stabilization, geotextile reinforcement, embankment engineering on peat, slope stability analysis, interface shear strength degradation, debris flow modeling, deep soil mixing for infrastructure stability, groundwater contamination remediation, and the development of systems for hydrocarbon removal from stormwater. Dr. Samira holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Hydrology and Hydrogeology from Universiti Putra Malaysia, as well as a Master of Engineering in Hydrology and Water Resources and Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UTM. Her research portfolio reflects a commitment to addressing complex geotechnical and hydro-geo-environmental challenges. She has contributed significantly to areas such as slope and soil stability in clay shales, innovative infrastructure reinforcement methods, and the application of hydrological models for environmental risk assessment. These contributions are widely recognized in high-impact journals and have informed practical engineering solutions. In addition to her research achievements, Dr. Samira has an extensive teaching and supervisory record, guiding numerous postgraduate students in advanced topics like soil-water dynamics, hydro-and-geological modeling, and spatiotemporal drought analysis. She has also held key leadership positions, including serving as Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, where she led efforts in academic quality assurance and curriculum innovation. Her administrative roles have further encompassed departmental leadership and academic panel oversight, reinforcing her influence in shaping educational and research excellence. Her other leadership positions include Acting Deputy Dean (Research, Development, and Innovation), Director of Engineering and Technology, EDGE Manager, and Facility Manager at UTM Kuala Lumpur. She also continues to contribute as an Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Evaluator for Civil Engineering and has been an Academic Leadership Talent Member. Dr. Samira’s administrative contributions extend to roles such as Head of the Civil Engineering Panel and Technology Manager at UTM, where she played a key role in program development, laboratory management, and academic advising. Her international exposure includes participation in the Disaster Risk Management, JICA Program in Japan, providing her with a global perspective on integrating best practices into academic and research initiatives. Across her career, she has served in various capacities as a lecturer, senior lecturer, and associate professor, consistently fostering academic innovation and supporting the advancement of interdisciplinary education and research. A recipient of UTM’s Excellent Service Awards in 2003 and 2019, she is a registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a Graduate Member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). Dr. Samira is also a member of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and the International Association of Hydrogeologists. Additionally, she served as a registered Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Subject Consultant for Hydrogeology. These memberships underscore her dedication to advancing engineering and environmental science on both national and international platforms. Her work continues to drive advancements at the nexus of artificial intelligence, environmental engineering, and geotechnical sciences, contributing to sustainable solutions and interdisciplinary innovation.
