The Kembara USR UTM- Cambodia & Vietnam 2018 was a memorable one for many reasons. The programme for the children of Kampong Kra Nhoung, Kratie, Cambodia could be divided into eight phases:
- Registration
Children were asked to give their names. Only children five to 12 years were considered participants. A total of 99 children participated
- Introduction
A brief introduction was done by the chief facilitator, Ms Yap Sin Yee, followed by ice-breaking.
- Ice breaking
We brought balloons for the children to play with. They had fun of course. Then the children were asked to sit in groups. Because we had only three interpreters, we had to make three large groups.
- Pre-test preparation : issuing toothbrushes, toothpaste and water
Toothbrushes were issued, one for each child, followed by the toothpaste and water
- Pre-test: Brush your teeth your own style”
The children were asked to brush their teeth, without any instructions.
- Demonstration of the proper way of teeth brushing by facilitators
Facilitators demonstrated the proper way to brush teeth.
- Post-test: Brushing teeth the correct way
The children were again asked to brush their teeth according to what they saw.
- Gift time
This was an important activity, to show appreciation to the children who came from all parts of the village
