Dr. Bakri’s broad-based science initiatives are well-established in the area of science education, science outreach, science communication, science policy and science leadership. He has been appointed as a working group member to review and formulate the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation. Dr. Bakri has also contributed to the establishment of National STEM Centre. Additionally, he is actively involved in various scientific societies, including the Malaysia Institute of Chemistry (IKM).
Dr. Bakri has been serving as a committee member of IKM Southern Branch since 2012. He actively organized and participated in various IKM activities to advance chemistry profession in Malaysia. Some selected examples are ACS-IKM Skill Workshop for Young Scientists, the annual Karnival Kimia Malaysia Selatan, 16th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Microscale Separations and Analysis, Chemical Security Capacity Building Program with NACWC, JTC-IKM Dialog Session to Discuss Chemistry Degree Programme Standards, Chemical Security Training Workshop for Academics and IKM Professional Courses for Southern Region. Dr. Bakri has also contributed an article for Berita Kimia, which was published as a cover page on the September 2017’s edition. He is a team member that led to the recent MoU signing between IKM and UTM. In addition to IKM, Dr. Bakri is also an Exco member for Young Scientists Network-Akademi Sains Malaysia and the past-immediate chair for American Chemical Society ACS Malaysia Chapter. He is also a founding committee for the American Chemical Society Asia Pacific International Chapter Conference.
